Different weaves need different care. Silk and zari are delicate and best dry cleaned; cotton can often be gently washed; designer and embellished sarees need specialist handling.

Dry clean silk, kanjeevaram and heavily embellished sarees.

Gently hand wash pure cotton sarees in cold water with mild detergent.

Never wring silk — press out water gently instead.

Wrap silk sarees in a soft muslin cloth.

Refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent creases.

Keep away from direct sunlight and damp.
